Dear Santa Claus,
This year, I have been a very good boy. I have not lied, and I always say thank you, which makes me polite, and so I deserve lots of love this xmas!
I am already a big boy now so i don’t want you to bring any toys for me this Christmas but i have a special request for you
In 2002 invited by the MTC to participate in the international day it was the first time i knew about him. His win with West Bar None of the Maigrot stable is one of many memorable races still graved in my mind.
On Maiden day 2009 he made his real entry in the Champ De Mars, this time employed by R.Maingard as the stable jockey. Associated with Halo Hunter for his first ride, he only finished 4th but the following meeting he flaunted his talents when he successfully led three runners to the first place. Iwannadance and Meltaway, two top rated horses in the first classic race of season 2011 were defeated by the outsider Royal Chalon who benefited from an expert master class ride. Yes it was my favorite who was on board to bring his first classic in the country which was once known as the paradise.
In 2011 he managed to join the Patrick Merven stable. He began riding for his new employer on 26th meeting but only managed his first winner with Ipse Dixit on the 30th meeting for Patrick Merven. Forgetting his unique qualities, a very good gentleman by heart, the public did not hesitate to boo and insult him. Please don’t get angry Santa as its typical when a jockey loses a race in Mauritius. Please don’t bring any gifts for the ones who like booing and insulting the jockeys when they lose races. But insults and boos did not prevent him from bouncing back and continuing to make his presence felt in the final straight most of the times.
The Princess Margaret Cup 2013 still adorns the showcases of Merven stable thanks to the superb victory of Liquid Motion on 14th September 2013 ridden by my idol. Couple of memories still roaming my mind when he launched Ruby King most of the times around the 600 meters from the post, the Newton’s son pulled out thunderous accelerations to settle his opponents each time, and this was always under the energetic riding of his iconic rider. With my number one on board, Princeton in burst of pride, the horse of the Ruhee’s family was always coming to blow his wins practically at the post. His mounts were always electrifying and amazing to watch every time.
A tactical and genius ride on Makes me Wonder left the other jockeys dazed. They are still wondering how they got dodge that day.
But I was very shaken nearly lost my breath by the events that took place in the 4th race of the 20th meeting 2014, in which he encountered a big interference on Magics Magic caused by the reckless riding of D.David onboard Always Flirting. It was very scary and he could have lost his life in this incident but thanks GOD nothing happened.
2014 was the consecration year for him after hard work and determination, he was crowned “Cravache d’or” on 29th November 2014 with 39 wins, three more than Johnny Geroudis, thanks to a triple that bears the clutches of Mighty Lion (2nd race), Prince Of Wings (7th race) and Mister Brightside (8th race). I remember in 1988 still very young I was in tears when my favorite horse of all the time “Wild Amber” lost the Maiden cup The 2nd time I had tears in my eyes was when my favorite rider was flying to the winning post with POW!! This time it was tears of joy when Price of Wings passed the post. It was a unique and incredible moment that cannot be describe in words. I know many of us had the same feelings and emotions that day. Thanks to my champion to bring us such wonderful moments in our life. Well Santa unfortunately glory always brings jealousy and this is what happened to him in 2015.
He was suspended for six weeks for his ride on Triad Of Fortune on the first meeting of 2015. A race won by hot favorite Elite Class who has now reached rating 55 whereas Triad of fortune is down to 34!! Not only he got suspended but got arrested in April 2015 by the authorities. He has been since FULLY CLEARED by the court of justice. “Oh yeah thanks justice is NOT BLIND” He was also under an objection to departure. He had also lost a loved one with the death of his brother Robin in France. Forbidden to leave the local territory, he was unable to attend the funeral. How can the high decision makers be so cruel against a human being?
It’s beyond imagination NOT to let someone to attend his brother funeral. In other countries even the worsts criminals are allowed special permissions in such circumstances.
As a real fighter, he didn’t escape the country silently; yes he could have done it like others. Oops that’s reminding me of someone who recently escape like a fyrCAT silently. But my Hero instead of being a coward and left, he wanted justice to be done and was always ready to face all hurdles ahead as deep inside himself he knew he didn’t do anything wrong.
Today he can stand up proud, heads up as he has no charges against him.
My idol made history once again when he came back from suspension and won the Duchess of York Cup 2015 with Silver Bluff. It was also a great moment for him, very moved when he returned to the paddock. A victory that was so significant to him by the running times. It was for his brother Robin, no doubt, that he was communicating when he cast a firm glance at heaven as he returned to paddock.
A worst scenario came once more after the publication of the civil marriage proposed between him and his Mauritian girlfriend Jamie on 15 August 2015. The Prime Minister’s office (or could be someone who rules behind the curtains) objected to the marriage. What the Hell!!! He knew Jamie well before his nightmares started and was already in a relationship with her long time ago but still some ill-judged people decided to object.
Once again he had to have fight for justice and as expected the civil status office came up with
“The objection of the Prime Minister’s office does not hold the road and has been over ruled”
Smart as they are the big guy(s) always behind the curtains didn’t lose any effort to bring him down again and came up with the idea to remove France from the extradition treaty list. Oh yeah Santa, Italy also has been removed from the list but ironically the local authorities made a request to the Italian authorities to extradite someone based on an old century treaty. What a Joke they said NO we don’t have treaty with Italy according to their list submitted to the MTC but still put a motion ahead to extradite someone from Italy. Which is Which? Maybe Santa you have the answer
By the way Santa i have not seen anywhere in the modern world where you can’t exercise your sole profession but is allowed to work any other jobs! It’s as if you come out with a Doctor degree out from the university but is forced to work as a Pilot!! Yes these things can only happen in our old paradise
Santa i still doesn’t understand why the authorities still allowing french, Italian, Irish nationals being employed by Banks, Casinos, financial institutions in our country which are high financial fraud risks jobs. Why only Jockeys have been targeted with this nonsense directive or let’s be more specific why my iconic idol has been targeted, who is behind all and why?
Well Santa, these days my hero has been forced to leave his wonderful brave wife, friends and thousands of fans in the country to be able to continue his riding passion in other countries like Qatar and India. But it’s not same pleasure for me as it was before. Seeing him flying to the winning post in the Champ De Mars is just so special.
So here is my humble request to you this Christmas:
BRING BACK MY HERO, CEDRIC SEGEON
TO THE CHAMP DE MARS
